Once I thought that extreme debilitating partisanship was limited to the realm of power-obsessed politicians. As I read the columnists, editorials and letters to the editors published daily in the Tribune (and other periodicals), I’m constantly and depressingly reminded that the (seeming) majority of the population is also afflicted with this malaise.
I would like to think that positions on events should be formed based on those events taken in context. If the views printed in the Tribune are any indication, I am in a naive superminority.
Can the Tribune raise the level of discourse presented and focus on thoughtful, reasoned analysis instead of views based on reflexive “thinking”? Your habit of presenting opposed opinions of shallow, shortsighted Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives, pro-Arab, pro-Israel, right-to-life, pro-choice zombies is adding nothing to the evolution of productive dialogue.
