Instead of creating “super algae designed to suck pollution out of Lake Erie” and genetically altered trees to clean up toxic waste, we as a society should work to solve the real problem, the abuse of our environment (“Next crop of altered genes adds promise–and fears,” News, May 23).
While this technology may seem like an easy solution, it does not solve our problems. It only implies that it is all right to continue to abuse our environment.
It seems a lot easier to take care of the Earth and avoid any ethical or religious debate over an issue that does not provide any real solutions.
