Harold E. Brooks, a resident of Hinsdale since 1950, died Friday, April 17, at Manor Care Hinsdale. Mr. Brooks, 96, was born June 12, 1905 in Chicago. He worked his way through the University of Chicago School of Business graduating in 1927. After 38 years of service, he retired in 1970 from Armour & Company as Corporate Vice President for Personnel, Labor Relations and Advertising. After retiring he was a Labor Relations Consultant for Frank Castle & Associates. In 1970 he was awarded the Silver Beaver for his 30 years as Vice President and Board member of the Chicago Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Vice President for H.E.W. of the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry and a Member for 32 years of the Economic Club of Chicago. The U.S. Treasury awarded him the Double Seal for creating payroll deductions during the Second World War to sell war bonds. They took the idea and applied it to the income tax and social security tax. Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia M. Brooks; his children, Joan (Brian) Maxwell, David (Connie) Brooks; and grandchildren, Lauren (Bill) Lamm, Fred (Amanda) Genck, Jennifer (Rich) Shoup, Ginger (John) Parcell, Ryan Brooks, Kate Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Madeleine, William and Christopher Lamm. A Funeral was held May 22. Interment was at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook. Arrangements were made by Elliston Funeral Home in Hinsdale.
