James Brodsky, age 82, born in Liban Czechoslovakia, of Michigan, formerly of Berwyn, died on June 3, 2002 at 8:40 p.m. in Michigan City, IN, beloved husband of Rith H. Niederle; loving father of James H. (Linda) Brodsky of Union Pier and Nancy L. (Jeff) Hix of Wheaton, IL; cherished grandfather of Amy, Jenny, J.D., Christopher, Jeffrey, Starla and Eric; greatgrandfather of Alanna and Skylar; adored brother of Martha (Frank) Raidl of Pasco, WA; father-in-law of Jane Brodsky; loved uncle of Alice, Martha and Robert; preceded in death by Parents, the late James Sr. and the late Ann, nee Jakobin Brodsky; son George Brodsky, D.V.M.; and sister Libby Brodsky. Mr. Brodsky was employed for 35 years as a statistical engineer with Western Electric in Chicago. Mr. Brodsky was a veteran of WWII, he fought in the Battle of the Tier River Campaigh, the Battle of the Bulge Campaign, In Patton’s 3rd Armored Division and also the 390 Field Artillery Headquarters, and assisted in liberating Czechoslovakia. Mr. Brodsky was a former president of the 94th Division, Midwest Chapter. He was a member of the New Buffalo Yacht Club. He received his B.A. in mathematics from University of Chicago and his M.A. from Northwestern University. Mr. Brodsky loved to travel the world, photography was his favorite hobby and he also loved history. He and his wife moved to Union Pier from Berwyn, Illinois in 1982. Funeral Thursday, June 6, 2002 from 5 to 8 p.m. (EST) at Smith Funeral Chapel, New Buffalo, Michigan. Visitation Wednesday, June 5, 2002 from 5 to 8 p.m. (EST) at the Smith Funeral Home, New Buffalo with Reverend Brad Bartelmay.
