A loved one is never far from one’s mind.
Lakers coach Phil Jackson was asked Monday whether he’ll coach beyond the two years left on his contract.
“I have not said two years is it,” he said. “I want to fulfill my contract, and that’s my first obligation. It’s a responsibility I owe to Jerry Krause. At that time I’d like to think the next step over.”
Jerry Krause? Jackson laughed and said: “Did I say Jerry Krause? [Lakers owner] Jerry Buss.”
Lakers want more: So how’s Pat Riley going to profit this time? Riley copyrighted the famous “Threepeat” slogan, which Nets coach Byron Scott said he came up with. Now with the Lakers on the verge of a threepeat, there’s talk of No. 4.
“There is not very far to go in this season,” said Rick Fox. “Just go to the podium to accept our trophy. But we already see one more on the board. There has been some talk around our locker room. Kobe has said he is going to put in double time this summer. Shaq says he’s going to do his body right this summer.”
