The Board of Education of District 79 has appointed Rick Taylor as superintendent, effective July 15.

Taylor is superintendent of Ball-Chatham Community Unit District 5 in Downstate Chatham. He has served as a high school assistant principal and a K-12 principal and athletic director.

Taylor received his doctorate in education administration from the University of Sarasota in Florida. He holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Western Illinois University.

Taylor succeeds Gary E. Mical, who will become superintendent of Wheeling District 21.
