Is your boss giving you unrealistic deadlines?
Author Barry Flicker said many workers will complain, get into an argument with the boss, then be ordered to meet the deadline anyway. They’ll blame the boss, excusing themselves from any responsibility.
Instead, he suggests, the workers should compile a list of the tasks that need to be done, then talk to anyone else involved and work out a timetable for how long it will take to complete each task.
“Now when you go in to the boss, you can explain where the problem is,” he said–assuming your estimate was right and you can’t meet the deadline.
Flicker said that including the details gives the boss more crucial information, so your answer won’t sound like a knee-jerk response from an uncooperative worker.
