U.S. Catholic bishops may feel our pain but apparently not sufficiently to accept unpleasant personal consequences.

A heartfelt apology does not begin to suffice.

Bishops who have not been involved should have the courage to admonish their brothers to do so.

The church can endure the loss of a generation of U.S. bishops better than it can endure spiritual leadership so profoundly compromised.
