The Huntley District 158 School Board hopes to fill four administrative positions before school starts in August.

At a meeting last week, it was announced that Leggee School Principal Chris McDermott and Assistant Principal Karen Hankinson have taken principal jobs in other suburban districts, and Lee Stanley, high school director of counseling, also has resigned. Board members chose not to renew the contract of Marilee Geanie, director of special services.

“As board members we see people come and go, and this is not an unusually high amount of turnover for a district our size,” board President Mike Skala said. “I do think it’s imperative, however, that we fill these four positions before the start of the school year.”

Board members voted to pay the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers $142,000 over the next two years to replace a wetlands area that was disturbed when the district built Leggee School three years ago. The money will be paid in two installments and will prevent litigation between the district and the Army Corps.

“We received a letter about a year ago from the Army Corps of Engineers, and the letter stated that we had disturbed a farmed wetland area,” Skala said. “We did not know that we had disturbed the wetland area before receiving the letter.”

Skala said the land in question was purchased from Del Webb.
