Rivalries, real or imagined, pervade all sports, particularly baseball. They can be ugly, even hateful; but at the heart of a true rivalry is respect, the same sort of battlefield respect shown by a warrior to a worthy adversary. I would like to commend the Chicago Cubs and their fans on the tremendous amount of respect, class and honor they have shown in response to the tragic loss of our fallen warrior, Darryl Kile. Both the outward displays at Wrigley Field and the dignity shown Saturday and Sunday are proof that Cubs fans are among the best in sport, and cement in my mind that I am proud, in my miniscule way, to be associated with the Cards-Cubs rivalry.
