The Elgin-based School District 46 Board of Education has decided to hold a referendum in November on a property tax increase.
The district, faced with rising enrollment and dwindling revenue, will ask voters on Nov. 5 to approve an increase of 38 cents per $100 of equalized assessed valuation.
The increase would generate about $12 million annually.
Owners of a $200,000 home would pay about $242 more in taxes to the school district.
