PINE MOUNTAIN, Calif. — I could smell the newness of the notebooks (“The joy of school supplies,” Sept. 3).
Just as I was lost in the words about going back to school in America, new chances, revitalization, education, composition books and new writing implements, Julia Keller jarred my psyche with the mention of 9/11.
It was a sobering thought, well reflecting the events of last year. First you took me to yesterday, then hurled me back into today.
