Anna Smashnova dashed Anna Kournikova’s hopes of her first WTA singles title with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the final of the Shanghai (China) Open. The 21-year-old Russian, better known for her glamor and lucrative commercial endorsements, has lost all four finals she has played in her career.
“She played her game, and I didn’t play the right way,” Kournikova said.
