The major Chicago newspapers devote considerable space to the coverage of high school sports. Except for an occasional citywide tribute, little attention is paid to the academic achievements of our top students.

I don’t think a story about the development of a young football player is any more important than the accomplishments of our aspiring scientists or writers. With all the attention given to problems in the educational system, it seems the press might provide some motivation for the continued progress of our best young thinkers.
