If you’re a “Providence” fan, you’d better get your fill now. Despite the popularity of the show, which airs Fridays on NBC, the network announced this week that it is whacking the show.
The family drama, starring Melina Kanakaredes, will conclude its five-season run with a two-hour finale Dec. 20.
NBC Entertainment czar Jeff Zucker felt “Providence” had run its creative course and wanted to pull the plug “a few months too early instead of a few months too late,” said an NBC executive, speaking on condition of anonymity.
There’s another wrinkle: Kanakaredes is expecting a child in January, which would have complicated production on a full season’s 22 episodes.
