Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

You will never be able to live down your endorsement of Jim Ryan for governor. No longer can a Tribune editorial ever be taken seriously, for it’s clear that you will overlook your own stated editorial policy to appease the Republican fat cats who spend the money on your advertising.

So when you said that Ryan should never again hold an office of public trust in Illinois after his unforgivable action in the Rolando Cruz case, you’re now saying you were “just kidding”?

I notice you did not rerun that quote in your embarrassing explanation of your choice, though you tried to suggest that Ryan learned a lesson in the Cruz case. I don’t think so. He’s still claiming he was right. But even if he apologized, since when did “never” mean “or until we are put in the excruciating position of having to back up this editorial stance in a future campaign.”
