I must disagree with the Tribune’s Oct. 27 endorsement for governor, and respond to Studs Terkel’s letter of the same date, “Governor choice.” I applaud the fact that Rod Blagojevich voted to support President Bush’s initiative against Iraq because, unlike other Democrats from the Chicago area, he understands the truth of the situation in Iraq.
The simple fact is, Saddam Hussein has never fully honored the cease-fire agreement he signed. A treaty or agreement is useless if it is not enforced.
I don’t have a problem with Jim Ryan; I think he did a fine job as the attorney general.
All the negative campaigning and political rhetoric aside, Blagojevich will get my vote for the positives I see in him. The Tribune calls Blagojevich a “creation” of Dick Mell, his father-in-law. Does this mean that Lisa Madigan, whom the Tribune endorses, is a creation of her father? I completely disagree, and regardless of the campaign support Blagojevich may receive from Mell, he is clearly his own man.
Blagojevich has on numerous occasions voted across party lines because of his beliefs.
Unlike Terkel, I don’t call this “craven” or “gutless”; I call it leadership.
