I have just read your newspaper for the first time, and I find that the few readers that have taken the time out to criticize the paper are insanely self-centered to feel that this paper is made just for them. They think they have the right to tell you what you should do with it.
If you don’t like it, don’t read it. It’s as simple as that. Give the rest of the population the chance to decide, especially those who have never read RedEye.
I personally don’t need to read super-serious articles after work; that is what your main paper is for and your competition is for. The newspaper should be easy breezy, as we say. There is more than enough seriousness going on in the world to last 10 lifetimes.
I feel as though you guys are on the right track, but not quite there yet and I wish you all the best of luck in your endeavor to bring us home at night and to tell us where we can go when we don’t go home.
I do have a suggestion, though: You should get a hard-nosed writer–a love columnist, sex, friendship, something like that–if you are going to continue to gear this toward the 20- to 30-somethings.
