Andrew Rozycki, age 93, recently of Norwich, Vermont, died Nov. 4, 2002 at the Hanover Terrace Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was born in Chicago on March 26, 1909, one of six children of Frank and Mary Rozycki, both of whom were born in Poland. His three brothers and two sisters predeceased him. He was married for 55 years to Estelle Lucille Gibala of Benton, IL, who died on Sept. 13, 1992. Andy lived in Chicago until he retired from Railway Express Agency (REA) after 35 years of service as a truck driver. He and Estelle then spent about 12 years in the Sun City, AZ area and another several years in Santa Rosa, CA, where Estelle died. Andy always worked two jobs in order to support one of his passions – gambling. He loved “the horses”, but any game of chance would entice him. Andy always loved children, as well as women of all ages, and he blossomed in the warmth of their attention. He was a cynic in that he believed “There’s a little larceny in all of us”. And he was an inherent pacifist in that he believed in the concept “live and let live”. Although he only voted once in his lifetime — and that time at age 89 — he could hold forth at length about politicians. Andy took great pleasure in telling a good story, and he always found something in his life to laugh about. And boy, could he “sing on cue!” Andy is survived by his daughters, Judith Kemp of Ellington, CT and Nancy Angelesco of Port Orfored, OR; his son, Alan Rozycki of Norwich, VT; his grandchildren, Paul Kemp of Seattle, WA, David Kemp of Oakland, CA, Ford Rozycki of Norwich, VT, Lisa Angelesco of San Francisco, CA, Derek Rozycki of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. and Gregory Rozycki of San Francisco, CA; his great-grandson, Ethan Rozycki of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.; as well as by Matt Cross of Post Mills, VT, for whom he had a special fondness. Our Dad and Grandpa is much loved and will be sorely missed.
