Joseph G. Powell, age 88, beloved husband of the late Jean Norman Powell and the late Elizabeth Hauser Powell; dear father of Ann M. Powell of Sherman Oaks, CA and the late Jean P. Thompson; dear father-in-law of Renold D. (Rod) Thompson Jr. of Hunting Valley, OH; dear stepfather of Mary Elizabeth Hall of Fredericksburg, VA, Patricia Hamilton of Palatine, IL, Jacqueline Stephenson (William) of Bronson, MO and Michael Henessey of Atlanta, GA. Joseph graduated from Duke University in 1936 and was in U.S. Marine Corps. Activities included music and golf. Member of Western Golf Assoc. He was men’s golf champion-Knollwood Golf Club-Lake Forest, IL for 1963, 1967, 1982 and 1984. Was on Board of Governors from 1957-1958. Was also men’s golf champion at Imperial Golf Club, Naples, FL for 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985. He was the Director of the Illinois Senior Golf Association from 1979 to 1985 and Vice-President of same from 1987-1989. He served as President from 1990-1991. He also worked for the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce as a salesman from 1960-1979.
