Colorado Avalanche goaltender Patrick Roy missed his second straight game Wednesday night because of a sore left hip.
David Aebischer made his second start in a row, with Philippe Sauve as his backup, against the Ottawa Senators. Roy again was in street clothes.
“It’s a day-to-day thing, and obviously I’ll be back when I feel 100 percent,” Roy said. “It’s progressing, and I hope to be back soon.”
Roy, 37, has a buildup of fluid in the hip, a condition that was confirmed by an MRI on Monday. He is taking medication in an attempt to reduce the fluid buildup.
“We need to see the fluid go down before we start thinking about going on the ice,” Roy said.
He felt some stiffness in his hip in games last Thursday and Saturday and woke up Sunday in some discomfort.
Roy, who has had arthritis, underwent minor surgery in his right hip before the 1999-2000 season to remove some debris. He played in 63 regular-season games and 17 more in the playoffs that year.
Antropov out a week
Toronto Maple Leafs center Nik Antropov, who has four goals and three assists in 13 games, will miss up to 10 days after going on the injured list with a sprained knee.
Antropov has had reconstructive surgery on both his knees in the past three years. The team wouldn’t say which is hurt now.
