In “The Gleaners and I,” presented by Reeltime, director Agnes Varda wanders the French countryside filming people who practice an old rural custom of gathering whatever edibles remain from fields that have already been harvested. She also walks the streets of Paris capturing scenes of poor scavengers looking for a bite to eat amid the garbage or picking up discarded objects. Varda herself becomes a gleaner as she gathers images that let her reflect on growing old. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Jonathan Rosenbaum, film critic from The Reader.
