Florida Panthers coach Mike Keenan liked what he saw in goalie Jani Hurme even before starter Roberto Luongo injured his back.
Hurme continued to impress Saturday night, posting 28 saves in the Panthers’ 3-0 victory over the Calgary Flames in the Panthers’ first shutout of the season.
“His preparation for each game is top notch and he knows how to win games in this league,” Keenan said. “He is really rising to the occasion here with this opportunity. Before Roberto was hurt, he played an unbelievable game for us in Dallas. He’s just increased his confidence since that time.”
The Panthers host the Blackhawks on Monday night.
