Howard Lapin, died peacefully at home in La Jolla, CA on Saturday, Nov. 9 after a long illness. He was born and lived most of his life in Chicago. The son of Ben and Mary Lapin, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He worked with his father at the family’s furniture business and later in the carpet industry, where he was a co-founder of Galaxy Carpet Mills. Winters spent in La Jolla, CA eventually led to a move there with his wife, Julia. His interest in art and people led to his serving on the board of the art gallery at the University of California at San Diego. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doreen, nee Byer; and his brother, Erwin Linn. He is survived by his wife, Julia; her children and grandchildren; his sons, David (Leslie Saunders) Lapin of Glencoe and Michael Lapin of Chicago; and his granddaughters, Maxine and Arden Lapin of Glencoe. He is also survived by his brothers, Mandel Kaplan of Chicago and Arden Lapin of Glencoe.
