A study of 200 British family doctors found large numbers of people were visiting their offices with “telly belly”–ailments and life-threatening illnesses they thought they shared with their favorite TV stars.
Health issues, ranging from AIDS and cervical cancer to brain tumors rashes and teenage pregnancy are regular fare for characters in British soaps. More than 90 percent of doctors said health stories on the news or in TV soaps affected patients.
