So the Democrats will now be in power in Springfield, and they can have their way with DuPage County and other suburbs. As a Chicagoan, a Democrat and a liberal, I would advise that Democrats act judiciously toward the suburbs.
Democratic strength in Illinois is ultimately related to growing support in the suburbs; the George Ryan scandal and legislative districting were merely catalysts.
While some shift in priorities toward Chicago is expected, Democrats should recognize that there is opportunity in the suburbs.
