I’m glad Tribune sportswriters bullied Jerry Angelo into extending Dick Jauron’s contract last year because now they can call for Jauron’s head so easily with the Bears in a losing streak.
At best, the Bears should have been 10-6 last year. How can anyone think a team has a good coach when it’s winning games on last-minute interceptions, fumble recoveries and Hail Mary passes? Those types of things don’t occur against good teams, so why was Jauron worthy of a renewal? Now it’s John Shoop’s fault.
Is Chicago really a city of perennial losers or is someone going to break the chain? In 1983 the Sox won their division; in 1984 the Cubs did; and in 1985 the Bears were Super Bowl champs. We thought the Bulls had removed the also-ran label from Chicago sports teams, but it was really Michael Jordan who did.
