Angelo Rossi, 76, co-founder of Rossi Contractors in Northlake, which put down roads and water lines throughout the Chicago area, died of complications from lung cancer Friday, Nov. 15, in Elmhurst Hospital. Mr. Rossi of Addison started his business with his brother Joseph in 1948 with one truck. “He labored in the daytime, they bought their truck, and they hauled the dirt away at nighttime in that one truck,” said his son Ronald. Mr. Rossi once told his wife that he would be happy with 10 trucks, said his son Robert. But the business grew to employ hundreds of employees and utilize 50 trucks and hundreds of pieces of heavy equipment. In 1967, the firm won a state contract worth $2.53 million to build an intersection along Interstate Highway 57 near Country Club Hills. In recent years, the company has done $40 million worth of business annually, Ronald Rossi said. Mr. Rossi, a hard worker who did not have many hobbies, was known for his quiet generosity. Other survivors include his wife, Gloria; and three grandchildren. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, 1223 W. Holtz Ave., Addison. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday in Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel, 450 Lake St., Roselle.
