We’ve all read the statistics about who is paying the bulk of taxes and supporting the less fortunate through government programs.
Suppose the current situation was a dinner in which two people dined and the bill came to $100.
One ordered $70 worth of food and the other $30.
Each pays his or her fair share. As they are about to leave, the owner stops them and congratulates them for being her 1,000th and 1,001st customers and dinner is on the house.
How do you distribute the refund?
Do they both get back $50 or should they get back what they put in?
I constantly read articles and letters in which people infer that the new Republican majority will be taking money from the poor and redistributing it to the wealthy. This is at best a misrepresentation and at worst a lie. The fact is that the new majority may finally allow those who pay the most to get back a small share of what is theirs.
