Helen M. Ryan, 82, of Tonica, IL, died Nov. 16, 2002 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Henry where she had been a resident for 17 months. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Tonica United Methodist Church, Rev. Becky Brault officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica. Visitation Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of Services at Tonica United Methodist Church. Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ryan was born in Chicago on Dec. 25, 1919 to Joseph and Mary Tresnak Cizek. She was a secretary for Dravo Ship Yards in Wilmington, DE before moving to Tonica. Mrs. Ryan married Retired Illinois Supreme Court Justice Howard C. Ryan in Chicago on Oct. 16, 1943. She was a member of Tonica United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star, past Matron of the Eden Star Chapter, Tonica Thursday Club and the LaSalle County Historical Society. Memorials may be directed to her church. Survived by her husband; one son, Circuit Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr. of Tonica; one daughter, Elizabeth Ryan of Appleton, WI; four grandchildren; one brother, Otto (Eunice) Cizek of Missouri; one sister, Ollie Vondrasek of Alton, IL; several nieces and nephews; preceded in death by one son, John, in infancy; and one brother.
