Christina Applegate has appeared before a TV studio audience nearly 300 times over the past 15 years. Yet when she did a guest role on an episode of “Friends” recently, she was nervous.
“I was petrified; I couldn’t believe it. I was laughing at myself,” Applegate recalls of the episode, which airs at 7 p.m. Thursday on NBC.
She chalks it up to being “the new kid” joining the tight-knit cast of NBC’s top-rated show, and says everything turned out well. Still, the experience of being a guest star after many years of working as a sitcom regular–on “Married … with Children” and later “Jesse”–was a little daunting.
“You walk into an environment where they’ve been doing it for so long, and they’re in and out (of rehearsal) really quick, so I kind of had to play catch-up all week,” she said. “To get back on my toes like that was a bit of an adjustment. You just really hope it all goes well on Friday night. And it does. It’s amazing how it all pulls together.”
