NBC’s newest reality series is like “The Amazing Race” meets the “Today Show” wedding.
That’s the gist of “Race to the Altar,” in which 16 soon-to-be-married couples will compete for a “fantasy primetime wedding” with a guest list that includes millions of TV viewers. NBC is planning for a spring or summer debut for the eight-episode series.
The 16 couples who take part in the show will compete in a series of challenges designed to test the strength of their relationships. Games will involve issues of trust, compromise and teamwork.
One or more couples will be eliminated with each episode, presumably leaving them to plan a not-for-broadcast wedding on their own. In the next-to-last week, the audience will vote on which remaining couple it wants to see get married. Not shockingly, their wedding will take place in the show’s finale.
