John Clifford Hedley, a retired Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Morton International, died on Nov. 19, 2002 in Charleston, SC. Mr. Hedley was born on Nov. 7, 1929 in Buffalo, NY to Wilson I. and Ethel Hedley. He attended City College of New York, was drafted in 1951, and attended U.S. Army Infantry Officer Candidate and Airborne Schools. He left the Army in 1953 as a First Lieutenant. Thereafter he began a career as a Human Resources executive. Mr. Hedley joined the Morton Salt Company in Chicago in 1964. In 1990 Mr. Hedley was promoted to Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Morton International, the position he held until his retirement in 1994. In addition, Mr. Hedley served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Marmion Academy in Aurora, and the Mark Morton Foundation in Chicago. He also was a former Trustee of the Cathedral Shelter in Chicago, and was active in the Church of the Ascension in Chicago and Saint Helena’s Episcopal Church in Beaufort, SC. He was a member of the Aurora Country Club and the Dataw Island Club, Dataw Island, SC. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his sons, John H. and Neville S.; grandson, John C.; a brother, Wilson I.; and a sister, Helen (Kenneth) Wally. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 11 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension in Chicago, followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. at Healy Chapel in Aurora. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Marmion Academy in Aurora or the Cathedral Shelter in Chicago.
