John O. “Jack” Jones, a 41 year resident of Northfield, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 6, 2002, after a long battle with cancer and Alzheimers. He was born in Ridge Spring, SC, on January 5, 1929, and was married to Alison Pope on July 21, 1956. He served with the US Army Counter Intelligence during the Korean War. He was an outstanding athlete and shared that gift as the founder of the Northfield Boys’ Baseball and as a fierce competitor at Chicago Curling Club. He also was active for many years in the Northfield Lions Club. Survivors include his wife: Alison; a daughter: Deborah Matz of Appleton, WI, two sons: John O. Jones Jr. of Chicago and James P. Jones of Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren: “RJ”, John and Stephanie Matz and Kendall Jones; four sisters: Frances (the late A.E.) Tokaz of Columbia, SC, Sherry (the late Ross) Ash of Marietta, GA, Ethelyn (Everett) Moyer of Gilbert, SC, and Doris June (the late Harley) Baldwin of Cayce, SC, and a brother: Arthur L. (the late Myrtle) Jones of Aiken, SC; in addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by two brothers: Rudolph M. Jones and Harold C. Jones and a sister: Nancy Jones. A celebration of his life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2002, at The Lutheran Church of The Ascension on SW corner of Sunset Ridge and Willow Roads in Northfield. Interment private.
