Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I believe you are missing a point in your coverage of the Augusta National controversy. Augusta National is a private club and as such can choose to associate–or not associate, in this case–with whomever it pleases.

A better question is why the PGA, which has somewhat different standards for membership, would wish to associate itself with said club? I detect a wee bit of hypocrisy there.

Make no mistake: If Augusta National wishes to hold a tournament, it may do so. If it wishes to invite PGA players to such a tournament, it may do so. If the media wishes to cover such an event, they may do so. But the PGA cannot sanction such an event, acknowledge its existence or have its results affect PGA standings without undermining the integrity of its own membership policies. It smacks of crass opportunism.
