So now football is following baseball. Don’t throw inside. Just serve it up on a platter so the big guys can hit home runs. Throwing inside endangers the jobs of the stars. Who cares that the pitchers will be out of a job for their high ERAs? It’s the hitters that fans come to see.
So now in football defensive players can’t hit with their helmets, can’t hit a quarterback, can’t hit a defenseless receiver. Intimidation was the rule of thumb when football was exciting. The Butkuses and the Tatums made you afraid to come into their territoryas much as the pitchers of old made you afraid to get in the batter’s box.
I recently saw Donovan McNabb running out of bounds. The safety backed off so as not to get a flag for a late hit. When he backed off, McNabb made a left turn and went 5 more yards. This is crazy. Injuries are a part of the game. We pay to see them play. I suppose football will become just like baseball. Protect the stars.
