Thanks for running the article [on www.blackpeopleloveus.com] (“Satirical Web site sparks racism talk,” Nov. 21).
Because of the nature of my business and social life, 99 percent of the time I am one of few African-American males present during various functions.
During the usual, “getting to know you” Q & A, family-oriented questions will arise. If and when I mention that I am adopted, it never fails. Someone out of the group will ask if my parents are white, or later it will come up that it was assumed that my parents were white.
What really gets me is that the reaction to this revelation is never one of embarrassment or apology for the blunder, it’s one of amazement or disbelief. African-Americans do adopt and have been doing so for years.
