My daughter was murdered in Baton Rouge, La., on May 31.
I felt certain that gratitude would not find me this Thanksgiving.
So I went in search of it.
Through the nightmare of events attached to the search for the killer and the bottomless darkness that her loss is, I find that I am profoundly grateful for every day of her beautiful, accomplished and happy life.
I am grateful for the friends who were such a gift of joy and a comfort of love to her.
I am grateful for the family and friends from all around for helping us continue to breathe.
I am grateful for my friends at work who remind me to laugh and talk to me when I cry at my desk.
I am grateful for Louisiana State University and Millsaps College for their care and support of us and scholarships that are Murray’s way to continue to touch lives and be part of a future otherwise lost to her.
Above all, I am grateful for Murray’s brother and sister for existing in this world and for allowing hope and love to continue.
If gratitude does not seem to be finding you this year, go find it.
