It is truly astonishing to read of the angst among some Tribune readers over an “unflattering” picture of President Bush on Page 1.
Even more astonishing is public editor Don Wycliff’s agreement with them.
Those who are convinced that the photo was the result of “underlying motives” to discredit the president should be reminded that the Tribune endorsed Bush for the presidency.
It should not be surprising that public figures who are photographed thousands of times will sometimes appear less than serious and perhaps even clownish.
In the case of George Bush, that is more likely than it might be for others of greater intellectual depth.
