Block Cinema has scheduled the premieres of two new works by local filmmaker James Fotopoulos. He uses only a one-person crew, minimal lighting and set design and only a few actors in his films. His first full-length feature, the 90-minute, digital video “Hymn,” gradually reveals the body of a man and a woman in various sexual positions without ever showing their faces. “Families,” an 80-minute 16 mm film, documents the movements and facial reactions of small groups of unrelated people in confined environments. Fotopoulos will introduce both films.

“Hymn,” 8 p.m. Thursday; “Families,” 8 p.m. Dec. 6, Block Museum of Art, 40 Arts Circle, Northwestern University, Evanston, $6; 847-491-4000.
