Thank you for your Nov. 18 editorial endorsing the preservation of the Lindbergh School in Hoffman Estates. I live down the road from the school and, while I didn’t attend it, have always liked the little cobblestone structure that gives a glimpse of the past in an area that is rapidly changing. And I have a hard time understanding the developer’s position that a tiny building is somehow impeding the development of a 110-acre subdivision.
I also think developers are missing an opportunity here. They could move the school and make it the centerpiece of a project called Schoolhouse Square or whatever, and perhaps make it a museum showing area kids what it was like to attend a little rural school 70 years ago. At the least, that would add some sense of place to the development, certainly more so than yet another cookie-cutter subdivision.
