– To help holiday-party hosts control guests’ alcohol consumption, AAA Chicago and the Auto Club Group of AAA clubs has published “The Great Pretenders Party Guide.” The guide features recipes for nonalcoholic drinks and appetizers submitted by the chefs and bartenders of select AAA Diamond-award winning properties in the Midwest. The guide also includes information about drunken driving and tips on how party hosts can control alcohol consumption by their guests. “The Great Pretenders Party Guide” is available free at any AAA Chicago branches in Illinois and northern Indiana or by calling 800-222-4357.

– Chicago’s ban on overnight parking on “key” arterial streets, such as Western Avenue, begins at 3 a.m. Monday. Parking on those routes will be prohibited between 3 and 7 a.m. until April 1, whether it snows or not. The ban is beginning a day later than usual because Dec. 1 falls on a Sunday, Streets and Sanitation Department spokesman Matt Smith says. A separate parking ban exists on other main streets when there is at least 2 inches of snow, no matter the time of day or date. All routes with parking bans are marked. Violators will have vehicles towed and face a minimum $150 towing fee in addition to a $50 ticket.
