Barbara Nelson, nee Brown, 70, of Buffalo Grove, passed away on January 7, 2003. With her beloved husband of 46 years, Douglas, Barbara lived in Deerfield for 40 years, where they raised their four children, Mark (Jeanne), Katherine (Michael) O’Reilly, Karen (Kenneth) Rechtoris and John (Cheryl). Barbara loved her eight grandchildren, and they loved and adored her, Emily and Laura Nelson, Anne, Thomas and Christopher O’Reilly and Matthew, Mary and Maggie Rechtoris. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Leonard “Mike” Brown; and her brother, Michael G. Brown. Barbara taught eighth grade Social Studies at Caruso Junior High School in Deerfield for 20 years. After retiring from teaching, she volunteered her time and talents to St. Patrick Church Ministry of Care and Catholic Charities. She enjoyed golf, bridge, reading and spending time with her family and her many friends. Visitation will be on Friday, January 10, 2003, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, IL. Her funeral Mass will be on Saturday, January 11, 2003, 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 950 West Everett Rd. (at Waukegan Rd.), Lake Forest, IL.
