Thank you for printing the positive story about the Girl Scouts (“The thoroughly modern Girl Scouts on the rise,” Woman News, Jan. 1). Several of my good friends and I continued as members of that wonderful organization through high school in the early ’70s, when it was very uncool to do so. We referred to it as our “secret society” and teased each other about wearing our Girl Scout pins on the inside of our bras. Figuratively, we may have hidden that insignia from others, but it was there just the same.

We all enjoyed scouts immensely throughout our childhood and high school years, and we all agree (we had a reunion of sorts this past summer) that it helped mold us into the women we are today. I use the leadership and organizational skills learned in that setting every day in my professional life.
