I was wondering how long it would take for someone to use the exciting Ohio State-Miami championship game as an excuse for keeping the screwy BCS system and not implementing a playoff. As it turns out, not long: Andrew Bagnato’s “Fiesta an instant classic” column (Tribune, Jan. 5).
Could someone please explain to me what the two have to do with one another? Is it not possible to have an exciting game as part of a tournament?
If you incorporated some of the bowls into a playoff system, more than one bowl game per season would mean something. But the powers-that-be have proved how desperate they are to maintain the status quo, so I’m afraid we can only look forward to more tweaking of the ridiculous BCS formula.
