Rick Morrissey’s column regarding Ryne Sandberg’s Hall of Fame status (Tribune, Jan. 8) was without a doubt the single most ignorant piece of sports journalism I have ever read. His statement that very few second basemen belong in the Hall ignores every notion of teamwork, belittles the skills necessary to play second base at the level Ryno did and shows a general disregard for the elegance and intricacies of the game.
I’m extremely surprised you let this column go to print. I will never again read Rick Morrissey, no matter the event, no matter the story. He has lost my trust, demonstrated blatant ignorance of team baseball and badly damaged the credibility of the Chicago Tribune.
