Buffalo Grove All-State football player Tommy Zbikowski spent three hours Sunday night with Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz and still wasn’t sure if Ferentz would remain in Iowa City.

After turning around the Hawkeyes’ program in four years, Ferentz has emerged as a leading candidate to coach the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“I asked him about Jacksonville, and he didn’t say much,” said Zbikowski, who also is considering Notre Dame and Nebraska. “It was tough to tell. I got the feeling that even if he did stick around, it would only be for one year. He is recruiting me as if he’ll be there next season.”

Zbikowski said the uncertainty of the coaching situation will likely drop Iowa a little in his evaluating process.

“There’s no guarantee (coach) Tyrone Willingham will be at Notre Dame for my four years and the same for Frank Solich at Nebraska,” said Zbikowski, who is expected to make a decision next week. “I’m still considering Iowa because I really like coach Ferentz.”
