The attack on the two joggers in the Dan Ryan Forest Preserve was tragic (“Dog attacks kill woman, injure another,” Metro, Jan. 13). It seems obvious that these dogs were trained to attack for the underground world of dog fighting. Dog fighting is a growing epidemic in Chicago and across the nation.
Unfortunately Chicago has not made the problem a priority. In areas where dogfights exist, the City of Chicago needs a minimum of two police officers per district who are trained to go undercover and bust dogfight rings. Further, in these areas, schools and teachers need to implement humane education and dispel the idea that dog fighting is fashionable and lucrative.
