Ralph Erich “Cork” Linke, 62, of Elgin, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 at Sherman Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 20, 1940 in Chicago, IL, the son of Erich and Mildred Linke. He grew up in Fox River Grove and was a resident of Elgin for 30 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War (USS Wainwright DLG-28). He had been an employee of Compaq Computer Corporation (formerly Digital Equipment Corporation) for 20 years before retiring in June of 2002. Ralph is survived by a brother, Erwin Linke, of Ascension Island (UK); two sons, Robert (Jennie) Linke of St. Charles and Jeremy (Michelle) Linke of Mount Prospect; and a grandson, Connor. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Virgene, nee Lorenz. Cork devoted his entire life to raising and spending time with his two sons. He was always giving of his time to family and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin 847-741-1128. Inurnment will be private in Windridge Cemetery, Cary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
