I am responding to Kathleen Parker’s column “Rape California-style is a woman’s prerogative” (Commentary, Jan. 15).
Just like rape, the verdict in this case is tragic.
There are definitely situations during intimacy when things can get out of control and rape does occur.
But this doesn’t sound like one.
Many teenagers experiment with sex. Their preconceived ideas of sexual relations don’t always measure up to the reality.
This is a learning experience.
This is not a criminal act inflicted on an innocent victim.
The courts continue to accept cases that charge others for the alleged victim’s poor judgment.
I feel sorry for the defendant and the plaintiff in this case.
For him, the decision will forge a distrust of our court system and women.
For her, it validates her actions that will continue her voyage on the victim path for many situations in her future.
This verdict made everyone a loser.
